OMG – KFC!

KFC

It was an accident. I swear.

Our good friends brought their boys over for a late afternoon playdate and dinner. Their eldest son is three days younger than Sawyer. We met when the boys were seven weeks old, at a support group for new moms, and bonded in a way only first-time mothers can. Their second boy is a year younger than Sage.

Even though they don’t live close by and it’s tough to get our schedules aligned, when we do, it’s so much fun. Our kids get along, our husbands get along – it’s a great time.

We discussed what to get for dinner. We’d both had pizza the day before. We wanted something easy. That’s when my friend’s husband suggested KFC.

He was joking. Sort of. But it lit a fire in David and soon they were off. Much to our disbelief.

The last (and only) time I’d eaten it? Was when I was pregnant with Sawyer and saw a commercial for it on TV. I called David and made him pick it up for me on his way home. But I was preggo, so I get a bye. Right?

This night, they returned with a bucket of original and a bucket of grilled. There were biscuits and mashed potatoes and gravy. Mac and cheese and corn and cole slaw.

People? Have you ever felt your thighs putting on some cottage cheese while you’re eating? My friend swore she did. As she got up for another helping.

It actually was good. Especially the biscuits. I stuck to the grilled chicken but was secretly eyeing the crispy stuff. Let’s just say someone left me alone with the leftovers the next day.

The best part of the dinner was we couldn’t believe we were actually eating KFC. We laughed as we stuffed our faces and I was so thankful for awesome friends.

Next time, dinner’s at their house.

We’re thinking Taco Bell.

Because we’re classy like that.

They don’t call that stuff “comfort food” for nothing!

This is making me giggle because the last time I had KFC was 2005. We were on the road, nothing else in sight. And like you, we laughed that we were actually eating (and enjoying) it — as in, “I cannot believe we are eating this. We are going to be so sick. Are there more potato wedges and cole slaw?” Seriously. It’s like that for us with most fast food, though. (Sometimes I do see a commercial or drive by one and get a hankering, I’ll admit). We do McDonald’s for fries a couple times a month but other than that? I know the last time I had Popeyes was in 2001 (and I still crave those biscuits). The last time I had Burger King (I had a Whopper Jr when we left the hospital with our second daugther) was in 2003. Fancy. And the last time I had Wendy’s was a little over a year ago. That wench forgot to put cheese on my chicken sandwich.

KFC was my hangover remedy in college . . . which may be why my weight yo-yo’d so much during those four years . . . it really is tasty, they’ve figured out how to make “chicken” right.

But, yeah, you just feel your arteries clogging & your ass getting bigger, as you eat delicious bite after delicious byte.

However, I am NOT a fan of their mac & cheese.

    Whew, you’re human after all.
    Just kidding.
The only thing that keeps me from eating it is that it isn’t even reasonably close to home. Because ITS THAT GOOD. And I’m lazy.

Holy crap. KFC is DELICIOUS, but, if I eat it more than twice a year, I feel completely and utterly disgusting. I don’t know–it’s like grease begins to flow out of your very PORES, half way through chowing through that shiny skin.

I can’t believe you didn’t go for the crispy! You crazy, Gurl. If you’re going to go in for KFC you’ve got to do it all the way. ;-)

I’m not a fast food snob–I’m really not. I eat it more than I care to admit. I also LOVE fried chicken. But I cannot do KFC. I just can’t. I know of too many people who’ve gotten food poisoning after eating there. I also had a friend in high school who work there. For 2 days. She couldn’t take the filthy conditions and being forced to serve a tray of chicken that had fallen on the floor.

I secretly love KFC.(Okay not so secretly now) and if you go for the KFC you HAVE to go for the crispy. It’s a federal law. Just sayin.

I haven’t had KFC in years!! You know, back when there wasn’t a person in the world who was concerned about health problems and connecting food to the health problems. You know, the good ole days. Now I’m hungry for some fried chicken, yep the extra crispy kind. I wonder when the next time my family will be gone so that I can get some for myself and not let them know… :)

That is hilarious. Yes, I have felt the cottage cheese on my thighs, especially after eating KFC. I can totally sympathize. With 5 girls and a busy homeschool life… KFC is right down the road and visited more than I care to share. This made me chuckle out loud. Thanks for that.
