Kitchen sink

I’ve got some stuff I wanted to talk about, but they are unrelated so I’m basically throwing everything in but the kitchen sink.
Which, when you think about it, is kinda weird. Why the sink? Why not the toilet? Or the bathtub?
I’m a wonderer. I can’t help it.
Let’s move on, shall we?
There are a couple things I want to point out on my sidebar. If you scroll all the way down to the bottom, you’ll see a button for a petition to ban peanuts on airplanes. This is an issue near and dear to me, as Sawyer has severe peanut allergy. Flying on a plane, in an enclosed, small space, is scary for us. We wipe down all surfaces before he sits. But you never know.
We tell the airline in advance that he has the allergy, and either they don’t serve peanuts to the rows in front or behind us, or they don’t serve peanuts at all on the flight. Which is great, and we’re appreciative, but they can’t prevent people from bringing their own peanut products on the flight. And with most people carrying their own food these days, it’s an issue.
So it would make us feel much safer if peanuts were banned completely. Peanuts are different than other severe allergies – such as to milk or eggs – because it does not have to be ingested to trigger a life-threatening reaction. Peanut dust can go airborne and be inhaled which can set off a reaction. Peanut butter also has a pretty tough residue that needs to be scrubbed off. Just coming in contact with it can set off anaphylaxis for allergic people.
I would be incredibly thankful if you could take a moment and sign the petition. Just click on the button and it will take you to the site.
Making our way up the sidebar, you will notice the button for The Red Dress Club. I hope you’ve had a chance to check us out. We’re a virtual writer’s club for women. The write women, as a matter of fact. We’re doing a linkup on the weekends where you can link to one of your best or favorite blog posts. Tuesday, we’re going to post our meme – Red Writing Hood – which will be a creative writing exercise to do on your own blog and then link up on Friday. We will also have guest posters, including a former co-worker of mine who will stop by Wednesday.
Also? If you’d like to submit work for critique, join the private The Red Dress Blog. The application is on The Red Dress Club site.
Next on the agenda: My Facebook fan page button. If you’re not already a fan, then get out of my blog! Kidding! I am! Kind of! No, really, I’m kidding! Ahem. If you would consider fanning the ‘pants, I’d be grateful. That is all.
Finally, this is the LAST DAY to vote for the Blogluxe awards. There are a lot of awesome nominees, so if you don’t want me to feel like the kid picked last at gym class, spare me a vote, please! Look for Mommypants under “Most Inspiring.”
Phew. That’s it for the sidebar update.
Now I will leave you with a very humbling story from Saturday’s MLB Fan Fest.
David took Sawyer to the batting cage. Sage, X and I went to “Stealing Home” where you race 90 feet down a green carpeted lane to home plate. It’s timed. I convinced Sage to do it and hoped by the time we waited in line and made it to the front, David and Sawyer would appear so I could hand off X.
It was finally our turn and still no sign of them. So I took X out of the stroller and Sage and I took our spots. Then we were off. X was laughing and squealing. Sage? Was kicking my ass. I couldn’t really go all out; aside from carrying a 23-pound baby, I was also wearing sandals and was trying not to pee my pants (that’s what birthing three kids does to you).
Still. She’s 4 1/2.
And she beat me by almost a second. The girl is fast! As we walked back to the stroller, some of the volunteers stopped me to say the smile on X’s face as we ran by was priceless. Luckily, David got the entire thing on film: he and Sawyer were actually on the sidelines watching. Which means, he also got Sage’s victory.
Guessing this won’t be the last time she leaves me in the dust.
