Just like over the campfire – only better

Yum.
Seriously.
Yum.
These are red velvet s’mores brownies. I got the recipe from How Sweet it Is. And showed the picture of it to my kids.
They demanded I make them. Tyrants. So Monday, when it was rainy and cold, I finally got myself together. The kids stood over the bowl, breathing their eager kiddy breath as they helped me measure and pour the ingredients in. And then I wouldn’t let them lick the beaters or the bowl because ZOMG salmonella! But really it was because the second they walked away I hid behind the breakfast bar and licked that bowl clean.
Still alive. But I had to protect my babies!
Anyway, you make a graham cracker crust and then the red velvet batter with a bunch of chocolate chips in it, and then, when it’s baked (actually, purposely undercooked, you know what I’m talking about), you slather on some Fluff (puh-lease do not make me explain what that is!) and stick on a ton of marshmallows and throw it under the broiler for 30 seconds while your son shrieks “YOU’RE BURNING THEM! THEY’RE TURNING BROWN!” when they are really EXACTLY how you like them when you are toasting them over a fire.
This is what you end up with. I am not a food photographer but I think you get the general idea. They are extremely gooey at this point which is awesome but I waited until the next day to eat them (they were too hot to eat anyway until after the kids went to bed) and then they can be cut into bars. And then you might continue to break off little pieces all day and then your husband comes home and asks who’s eaten all the brownies.
That’s when you point at your kids.
At least they didn’t get salmonella poisoning.
